Nyantakyi aims at 2022 World Cup qualification for Ghana

The football association chief insists the Black Stars must recover from their slumber and qualify for the 2022 World Cup

Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantakyi has admitted his disappointment after the national team failed to make it to the 2018 Fifa World Cup holding in Russia, but has set sights on making amends for the 2022 edition.

The Black Stars were hoping to make it to a fourth consecutive World Cup following their debut campaign in 2006, however, they finished third in Group E of the qualifiers with seven points behind Egypt and Uganda.

“Going to the World Cup has become part and parcel of our lives and so, for me, it is an anticlimax," Nyantakyi was quoted as saying by Citifmonline.com.

"It is a big disappointment to me as a person and as the head of the football association, I think that it is not encouraging at all that we will not be able to respond to the roll call of the world’s biggest footballing nations in Russia," he said.

He added: "But we cannot do anything about it now. We just have to put the past behind us and go back to the drawing board.

"We have to re-strategise and look forward to 2022 and ensure that we do not miss the boat the next time.”

Goal understands that Caf has offered $500,000 to each of the five African countries that will represent the continent to aid their preparations.
