Queens Park Rangers have confirmed the signing of Ghanaian winger Kwame Poku from Peterborough United ahead of the new Championship season.

The 23-year-old joins QPR on a permanent deal after four years at Peterborough, with the transfer fee remaining undisclosed due to his age and development compensation rules.

Poku’s contract with Peterborough expired this summer, but the two clubs agreed on a fee that also includes a sell-on clause, ensuring his former side will benefit from any future success.

The Ghanaian arrives at Loftus Road after a standout spell with Peterborough, where he made 147 appearances and scored 30 goals in all competitions.

Despite missing a portion of the 2024/25 campaign with a hamstring injury, he still managed to win back-to-back Sky Bet League One Player of the Month awards and earned a spot in the League One Team of the Season.

His impressive performances last season saw him score 12 goals and provide eight assists in 27 League One games.

His contributions were crucial in helping Peterborough reach the play-off semi-finals and secure two EFL Trophy triumphs at Wembley Stadium during his time at the club.

Before his time at Peterborough, Poku began his professional career at Colchester United, quickly establishing himself as one of the most exciting young talents in League One.

The winger’s consistent performances and growing reputation attracted interest from several clubs across Europe and the Championship, with QPR CEO Christian Nourry highlighting that Poku chose Loftus Road over teams with “significantly larger budgets”.

In his first interview with QPR, Poku expressed his enthusiasm for the move, speaking highly about the prospect of the project.

The project they are constructing here truly excites me, and I want to contribute to elevating QPR to the next level. There are talented players here, and I believe these are thrilling times for the club.”

For QPR, Poku’s arrival signals intent as they look to mount a serious challenge in the Championship and fight for promotion after finishing 15th last season. Meanwhile, for the player himself, it represents a fresh opportunity to shine on a bigger stage and continue his upward trajectory.

Poku will hope playing in the Championship will elevate his chances of making a return to the Black Stars after making just one appearance, which was his debut against São Tomé and Príncipe in 2021.
