Twenty years after claiming France's first and only World Cup triumph, the victorious 1998 squad were reunited once again on Tuesday night.
And just like that famous night in Paris, they were on the winning side once more beating an All Star 98 XI 3-2.
Zinedine Zidane had to settle for just the one goal this time, after netting twice against Brazil in the final at the Stade de France.
Thierry Henry and Vincent Candela were also on target for the hosts, with Spanish pair Fernando Morientes and Gaizka Mendieta netting for the visitors.
Most of the victorious French squad were in attendance, though the current boss Didier Deschamps was excused as he leads the charge for glory this summer.
Former Juventus striker and Euro 2000 hero David Trezeguet was also in Russia ahead of the start of this summer's tournament on Thursday.
Sabri Lamouchi and Ibrahim Ba took their places.
France boss Aime Jacquet began with 10 of the same starting eleven who got France off to a winning start 20 years ago, with a 3-0 win over South Africa in Marseille.
He reunited the back five of Fabien Barthez, Lilian Thuram, Laurent Blanc, Marcel Desailly and Bixente Lizarazu.
In midfield, Christian Karembeu took the place of Deschamps, lining up with Emmanuel Petit, Youri Djorkaeff and Zidane. Up front Thierry Henry partnered Stephane Guivarc'h.
Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger took charge of the All Star team, with former Italian goalkeeper Francesco Toldo in between the sticks.
Wenger had a host of household names to call upon with Edgar Davids, Samuel Eto'o, Christian Vieri and Hristo Stoitchkov all starting.
Among those on the bench were David James - the only Englishman in attendance - Slaven Bilic, Mendieta, Mario Stanic, Giorgos Karagounis, Fernando Morientes, Patrick Kluivert and Jamaican sprint king Usain Bolt.
Bolt had hot-footed it over to the game at the U Arena Stadium in Nanterre, just outside Paris, having played at Soccer Aid at Old Trafford on Sunday night.
It was they who took the lead, with Morientes finding the back of the net in just the 8th minute. But France equalised in the 22nd, Henry curling home after exchanging passes with Zidane.
It was the recently departed Real Madrid boss who got in on the act after half time, firing a free kick in off the post before Mendieta equalised on the hour mark.
It was left to the unlikely figure of Candela to secure a fitting victory for the French, seven minutes later, from a deflected set-piece.
