AFCON 2025: “Happy Towel Day,” fans mock after the final

Fans are up in arms following an Instagram post by Ismaël Saibari, after he committed a shameful act during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final.

PSV Eindhoven’s Moroccan player Saibari reacted negatively to Morocco’s defeat to Senegal on Sunday evening.

After leaving the field, he tried to prevent Senegalese goalkeeper Édouard Mendy from using a towel, causing a public outcry.

The video of the incident went viral, prompting fans to mock Saibari. Numerous towel GIFs appeared under his latest Instagram photo.

Comments with captions such as “Happy Towel Day” and “Towel FC” were common.
