WAFCON: Zambia coach Nora Hauptle reacts to draw

Zambia Women’s Football National Team Head Coach Nora Hauptle says Malawi’s Women’s Football Team will not be an easy opponent at this year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Zambia were drawn against debutants Malawi Scorchers, defending champions Nigeria, and Egypt at the 16-team tournament, which will run from 17 March to 3 April in Morocco, with matches staged in Rabat, Casablanca, and Fez.

“We have a very tough group with Nigeria, the current champions, and we have Malawi as well. Don’t underestimate Malawi. They have top players in the USA and Europe,” said Hauptle after the draw in Rabat.

Zambia is in Group C and will open its campaign on March 18 against Egypt before facing Nigeria three days later.

The final group game will be against Malawi on March 24. Top two teams will qualify to the quarterfinals with the semifinal finalists at the WAFCON qualifying for the Brazil 2027 FIFA World Cup.
