Senegal captain Kalidou Koulibaly has played down any talk of favourites ahead of his side’s highly anticipated semi-final clash against Egypt, insisting that past victories will count for nothing when the two African giants meet again.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference, the towering defender acknowledged Senegal’s triumph over the Pharaohs in the final of the last Africa Cup of Nations, but stressed that every encounter writes its own story.

“It’s true that we beat Egypt in the final of the last AFCON, but every match has its own history. This semi-final will be very difficult,” Koulibaly said.

The Al-Hilal centre-back was full of respect for the North African side, praising their consistency and resilience throughout the tournament.

“We respect this Egyptian team a lot. They fully deserve their place here. They’ve had a good tournament, just like us,” he added.

Koulibaly also predicted a tight and tactical battle, with little separating two teams known for their discipline and competitive edge.

“It may be a closed game, but we will do everything to win it,” he concluded.

With both sides carrying rich history and huge ambitions, the stage is set for another tense chapter in the growing rivalry between Senegal and Egypt — a match where fine margins could once again decide who moves one step closer to continental glory.
