AFCON 2025: PHOTOS: Tanzania return home to hero’s welcome

The Tanzania national team returned home safely after a historic AFCON campaign, making it out of the group stage for the first time in the nation’s history.

A special salute to President Samia Suluhu Hassan, whose leadership and support were clearly felt. She personally arranged a presidential aircraft to bring the team home from Rabat. A powerful gesture of appreciation, pride and respect for the nation’s heroes. The Taifa Stars were eliminated after losing to hosts Morocco in the Round of 16 match in Rabat.

They went down fighting as they frustrated the star-studded Atlas Lions for long periods of time. They were undone in the second-half after a moment of brilliance from Achraf Hakimi to set up Brahim Diaz to score the only goal of the game.

Tanzania were playing in their first-ever knockout game at the Africa Cup of Nations after going through as one of the best losers. They finished third in Group C with two points after losing to Nigeria and drawing with Uganda and Tunisia.
