AFCON 2025 : Pagou praises Morocco but insists Cameroon are fully ready

Cameroon head coach David Pagou has made it clear that his side approaches their AFCON 2025 quarter final clash with Morocco with deep respect, not hesitation. Speaking ahead of the highly anticipated encounter, Pagou acknowledged the quality of the host nation while underlining his team’s focus and determination to rise to the occasion.

At his pre match press conference, Pagou described Morocco as one of the tournament’s strongest teams, highlighting their mix of individual brilliance and collective organization. Playing the hosts, he admitted, adds another layer of difficulty and makes the contest a serious test for Cameroon.

Pagou also pointed to Morocco’s excellent recent form and their strong position in the world rankings. He stressed that his players are fully aware of the challenge in front of them but remain confident in their own preparation. “We are ready for the match,” he said. “We will play with great focus and take it one step at a time.”

When asked about past meetings between the two sides, Pagou downplayed their relevance, explaining that Morocco today is a very different team from years past. He praised the country’s progress in infrastructure, organization, and player development.

Cameroon, he said, will be facing a well drilled and powerful opponent. “We are up against the host nation, a very tough team,” he added. “I am not a historian, but Morocco has never been defeated.”
