Mali captain Yves Bissouma has delivered a powerful and emotional message to the Malian people, calling for unity, calm and continued support as the Eagles prepare for a decisive quarter-final clash against Senegal at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.

In a heartfelt address to the nation, Bissouma acknowledged the weight of expectations on the team and assured fans that the players are giving everything for the country.
“Dear Malians, my teammates and I are fully aware of your expectations. Every day, we work and fight to improve, match after match. Know one thing: we never cheat. Every time we step onto the pitch, we give our all to proudly defend the green, yellow and red of our dear Maliba,” he said.
The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder admitted that results do not always reflect effort, but insisted the team’s focus remains on progressing in the competition.
“Results are sometimes what they are, but the most important thing is to keep moving forward in the tournament. We are on a mission. The Africa Cup of Nations is a very high-level competition, with great nations, and every team dreams of winning it.”
Bissouma also took time to address the growing tension and criticism on social media, urging supporters to move away from insults and threats and instead stand united behind the team.
“We call on everyone to come out of negative emotions, insults and threats on social media. Calm your hearts, stay united, do not be divided. We all share the same objective. Continue to support us as you always have: with passion, patriotism and love.”
Referring to Mali’s recent heroic performance where they played with 10 men against 11, Bissouma said the team had shown the true spirit of the nation.
“A few days ago, playing 10 against 11, we showed the whole world what it means to be Malian: courage, determination and pride. These are the values of our people: never give up.”
He ended his message with gratitude and a call for faith and unity.
“Thank you to all Malians, wherever you are in the world. As our motto says: One people, one goal, one faith. On behalf of my teammates and myself, we ask the people to stay behind us in this common fight, always keeping the faith, God willing.”
Mali will face former champions Senegal in what promises to be a blockbuster quarter-final encounter, with Bissouma and his teammates determined to turn words into action and keep their AFCON dream alive.
