Andre Onana on his departure from becoming a Cameroon national team player

André Onana has broken his silence after being left out of Cameroon’s squad for the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

However, he did not comment on the tournament, but rather on his time at Trabzonspor. The goalkeeper, on loan from Manchester United, would like to extend his stay in Turkey.

In an interview with an English newspaper, the Cameroonian said he is enjoying “the best period of his life.”

“I have no reason to complain, I’m really happy here,” said the former Ajax player.

Despite this, the goalkeeper was surprisingly left out of the Cameroon squad for the Africa Cup of Nations. Onana reportedly lost his place in the national team following a change of coach.

Onana has also been dropped from Manchester United’s first team, but he is getting plenty of playing time at Trabzonspor. The goalkeeper has already played in thirteen league games.

His club is performing excellently and is currently third in the Süper Lig, behind Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray.

If it were up to Onana, this successful period would continue, but it remains to be seen whether Trabzonspor will be able to sign him permanently. The goalkeeper is under contract at Manchester until mid-2028.

“If it’s financially possible, I’m quite willing to stay longer,” he said.

Onana is very enthusiastic about Turkey, particularly when it comes to the passion for Turkish soccer. “Sometimes people stop in the middle of the road to take a photo. At first, I wondered if there was any other way. But when I see how happy it makes people, it makes me happy too.”
