Zimbabwe’s Warriors have shifted into full focus mode ahead of their critical Group D Africa Cup of Nations 2025 qualifier against Angola, following a heartbreaking opening-match defeat that slipped away in the final minutes.

Head coach Marian Marinica struck a tone of resilience in his pre-match remarks, acknowledging the competitive nature of the group while insisting his side has mentally reset.

“This group is very balanced. We lost in the final minutes of the first match, but mentally we must move forward.

The past is behind us,” Marinica said, underscoring the importance of psychological recovery in tournament football.

The late loss may have dented the Warriors’ opening momentum, but not their belief.

The technical team has reportedly spent the past 48 hours breaking down footage, correcting structural lapses, and reinforcing transitions—areas that were exposed in the dying moments of their first outing.

Captain Marvelous Nakamba, a midfield general known for his tactical discipline and leadership, delivered a confident update from the camp, confirming the team’s readiness and singular focus on Angola.

“The team is ready. We have worked, analysed our match and now we are focused only on Angola,” Nakamba stated.

With both Zimbabwe and Angola losing their opening fixtures, Thursday’s clash carries enormous weight.

A second consecutive defeat for either side would significantly narrow their qualification path in a group where margins are razor-thin and no clear frontrunner has emerged.

Zimbabwe are expected to lean on their physicality and midfield organisation, anchored by Nakamba, while increasing attacking urgency through wide channels.

Sources within the squad suggest a possible tactical tweak that could see Zimbabwe deploy quicker vertical passing in an attempt to disrupt Angola’s defensive rhythm.

Angola’s backline, though structured, showed vulnerability under sustained pressure in their opener, giving Zimbabwe confidence that disciplined aggression could yield results.

The Warriors have not progressed beyond the AFCON group stage since 2006.

But under Marinica’s pragmatic leadership and Nakamba’s command, the team believes this campaign can rewrite that narrative—starting with a statement win over Angola.
