Pride and Spirit set for Kansas City 2024 NWSL Championship final showdown

The new CPKC Stadium is the setting for Saturday’s 2025 NWSL final as Orlando face Washington.

After 26 games in the regular season, two playoff quarter and semifinals to negotiate, two sides remain in contention to lift the 2024 NWSL Championship as Orlando Pride and Washington Spirit face off next Saturday in Kansas City’s CPKC Stadium.

For Washington Spirit, an NWSL final is familiar territory having won the competition on 2021 avenging ther 2016 loss. For the Orlando Pride, it’s a different story with Saturday’s final being the first time the Florida side have progressed so far in their short eight year history.

Both teams were made to sweat on their way to punching their final ticket with the Spirit needing a penalty shootout to squeeze past 2023 champions Gotham FC with Orlando edging out Kansas City Current 3-2 on Sunday afternoon with Brazilian veteran scoring one of the finest goals in 2024 sliding home after a mazy run leaving KC players in her tracks.

The Florida outfit go into the match as slight favourites given their spectacular regular season which secured top seeding plus Seb Hines’ side will be boosted by the outcome of both meetings this season with the Pride getting a 2-3 away win in DC along with a 2-0 home win in early October when both teams met in Florida.
