Man United Women set to parade the FA Cup around Old Trafford after final game

Manchester United Women will celebrate the end of the Women's Super League (WSL) season by parading the FA Cup around Old Trafford in front of over 30,000 fans on Saturday.

United host Chelsea in their curtain-closing game as departing Blues boss Emma Hayes prepares for her final match in charge before leaving to take over the US Women National team.

All attention heading into the game will be on beating Chelsea with the host's knowing a win could see them climb above rivals Liverpool on the final day of the season if the Reds lose at Leicester.

It was also believed that United boss Marc Skinner could be marking his final game in charge following a difficult league campaign before he signed a one-year contract extension on Friday.

Saturday will also be used as an occasion to celebrate the club's recent silverware success after United beat Tottenham 4-0 at Wembley the week previous to claim the FA Cup for the first time in the women's team history.

The iconic cup will be paraded around Old Trafford at the end of the game during a lap of appreciation that United's stars will use as a finale to mark the end of the season.

Other individual accolades will also be presented at the game with the women’s player of the year, goal of the season and player’s player of the year award all being handed out pre-match.

Meanwhile, departing Blues boss Hayes will be hoping to spoil United's trophy celebrations knowing victory at Old Trafford could seal them the league title.

Chelsea are currently sitting top of the table and in the driving seat to be crowned WSL champions, but any slip-up against United would hand Man City the chance to leapfrog them.

Both City and Chelsea are level on points, with the Blues holding a +2 goal difference advantage over their title rivals heading into the final day of the season.

Speaking at her final press conference as Chelsea boss, Hayes admitted bowing out of England with a seventh WSL title is the aim but insisted enjoying the 'journey' of being manager at Stamford Bridge was the most important thing.

‘I think the journey is probably the most satisfying thing,’ Hayes said.

‘Going from nothing, going from an unranked team that was close to relegation, that had no resources, had no facilities, no players that were professional.

'People always like to pick holes at the things you don’t do. What we’ve achieved here is remarkable, considering our starting point.

'We didn’t have a history in women’s football, we’re now considered one of the top sides in the world. To get that respect and be part of a club that bought into that, I’m probably most proud of.

'Then, of course, the people. Then winning. Winning has been just as important but I don’t think the winning is gonna be my lasting memory,' she added.
