The Lionesses are in sunny Marbella for two friendlies against Austria and Italy.

Sarina Wiegman's side missed out on qualifying for the Nations League finals in December - a setback which also cost Team GB a spot at the Paris Olympics - so are using this warm-weather camp as preparation for April's Euro 2025 qualifiers.

Here, Mail Sport gives you the low-down on the latest stories from camp.

JESS JETS IN LATE

Jess Carter was a late arrival to the England camp, with the Chelsea defender flying in on Wednesday morning.

A keen driver holding a 'Jess Carter' sign picked up the 26-year-old at Malaga airport after asking other arrivals if they were the defender.

Carter played in Chelsea's 1-0 defeat by Manchester City on Friday. It is unclear why she did not fly out with the rest of the team on Monday but Wiegman is due to speak to the media on Thursday morning.

LAYZELL'S BIG BREAK

Carter's absence was good news for young centre back Naomi Layzell, who was called up to train with the seniors.

Layzell is in the Under-23 squad who also have two fixtures in Marbella but was given the chance to impress Wiegman in Wednesday's session. The 19-year-old has excelled for Bristol City this season and was unlucky to miss out on a first-team call-up when Leah Williamson withdrew through injury.

SEAFRONT STARS

Marbella has a reputation for attracting the rich and famous and England's seafront hotel has seen its fair share of celebrity guests.

Former Boyzone member Ronan Keating previously hosted a charity golf event and concert there which was attended by actor James Nesbitt and Britain's Got Talent judge Alesha Dixon.

DUTCH NEIGHBOURS

The Lionesses have plenty of national teams for company. As well as Austria and Italy, Poland and Switzerland are also training and playing in Marbella. While the Netherlands senior side are training in Seville ahead of their Nations League semi-final with Spain, their Under-23s are in Marbella and will play the Lionesses next week.

Anja van Ginhoven, the Lionesses' general manager, attended a press conference at the Marbella Football Center which opened the city's 'Week of Football'.

MUSICAL SHAKE-UP

Katie Zelem was the England team DJ at the World Cup but her absence from this squad has seen a switch-up in the music choices.

Natasha Bedingfield's Unwritten and Foundations by Kate Nash were regularly played in Australia but it was You've Got The Love by Florence and the Machine that was heard blaring out on the speakers on Wednesday.
