Prize money for the Women’s FA Cup will double to £6million this season in a huge boost to clubs across the country.

The uplift in funding will come into effect from the third round onwards, where second tier clubs enter the competition, and follows last season’s 10-fold increase, which brought the total prize pot up to £3m.

Winners of this season’s competition will receive £430,000 while the runners up will pocket £108,000.

The figure is still below that of the men’s competition, where the winners receive £2m, but the FA’s long-term plan is for both formats to have equal prize money.

‘Doubling the prize money showcases The FA’s clear commitment to the future of the Women’s FA Cup and will help us maintain its stature as the most prestigious domestic women’s cup competition in the world,’ Baroness Sue Campbell, the FA’s director of women’s football said.

‘That’s why we’re delighted to be making a second successive increase to the prize fund, ensuring that as clubs progress through the competition they receive financial rewards that will empower them to invest in their own futures.

‘Ultimately, we want the women’s competition to receive the same prize money as the men’s, and this new increase is a positive step in the direction of achieving that long term ambition.’

Clubs competing in the third round will now access a prize fund of £44,000 per match, a substantial uplift on the £12,500 pot allocated for the same round in the 2022-2023 competition.

There will be an increase for each match between the third round and the final, with the two clubs that reach Wembley competing for a prize pot of £538,000.
