Mary Earps wins the Golden Glove for her performances in the World Cup

Mary Earps has been awarded the Golden Glove at the 2023 World Cup for her performances for England.

The Lionesses' goalkeeper produced a typically unflappable display as England were defeated by Spain in Sunday's final, making a number of strong saves to keep England in the game as they went behind in the first half.

Earps' finest moment was still to come however, as she was called upon when after a lengthy VAR review Kiera Walsh was adjudged to have handled the ball in the penalty box.

With a second goal threatening to kill off England's attempts to work their way back into the game, Earps stepped up when her team needed her most, staying on her line and diving low to her left to deny Jennifer Hermoso from twelve yards before celebrating passionately.

As England desperately chased an equaliser Earps was again called upon to make several crucial saves, and was the team's standout performer in defeat.

Still showing the effects of a tireless performances at the Stadium Australia, Earps put on a brave face as she posed alongside Spain's Aitana Bonmati who was named the tournament's Golden Ball winner.

Earps played in every minute of the team's run to their first-ever World Cup final, and kept clean sheets in group stage wins over Haiti and Denmark, and the Round of 16 victory over Nigeria.

The Manchester United star was the centre of a significant controversy prior to the tournament, after England's kit manufacturer Nike elected not to produce a replica version of her goalkeeper kit for the tournament.

Earps expressed her disappointment with Nike's decision, and revealed that she had even personally offered to fund the production of a replica kit.

As Sarina Wiegman's side continued their progression to the final, public pressure mounted on Nike to reverse its decision, with fans flooding the comment section of an Instagram post from the sportswear giant demanding a replica shirt be produced.
