Sarina Wiegman insisted she has no plans to leave her role as England manager before her contract runs out in 2025 despite being linked with the United States job.
Wiegman will lead the Lionesses into a first ever World Cup final on Sunday, 12 months after she made history by winning Euro 2022 on home soil.
The manager’s success since taking over in 2021 makes her one of the standout candidates for the US, who are looking for a new boss after Vlatko Andonovski resigned following a poor performance at this summer’s tournament.
But Wiegman, who said she is only focusing on preparing to face Spain in Sunday’s final, is happy with England and blocking out the talk around her future.
‘I’m staying out of that (rumours about the US). I’ve heard it. I’m with England, I’m really happy with England and I have a contract until 2025.
‘I’m really enjoying my job and I have the impression that people still like me doing that job. I have no plans to leave.’
The Football Association’s chief executive Mark Bullingham said on Thursday that the governing body would not entertain any approach for Wiegman.
Asked whether they would reject an offer outright, Bullingham said: ‘Yes, 100 per cent.
‘No price would be enough to lose her. It's not about the money. We are very, very happy with her and we feel she is happy. I think that is the answer.'
Wiegman had said she felt as if she was living in a fairytale after England’s semi-final victory over Australia.
The manager has now reached four major finals, having led the Netherlands to victory at Euro 2017 before losing the 2019 World Cup final to the US.
‘I’m very aware, together with Arjan (Veurink, assistant manager) because it is his fourth final too, that it is really special,’ Wiegman said.
‘When you are in top sport, it’s normal that everyone wants to make the final but you can’t all be there. Not many teams get to finals. To get to four, that is very, very special but as soon as you get there, I switch to thinking about what we still need to do. We are in the final, but everything now, all my thinking, is how do we beat Spain?
‘When you're so close you're only thinking 'OK, what's next, what can we get in front of us, what challenges can we expect, how are we going to prepare the team, we're already working on that because we did the recovery and now we're getting ready for Spain, no, and I don't want to relax, I just want to get ready.’
