Sam Kerr's girlfriend Kristie Mewis arrives in Sydney ahead of World Cup semi

The mind games have begun ahead of the Matildas World Cup semi-final showdown against England on Wednesday, with the girlfriend of Aussie star Sam Kerr arriving to support her partner - who will be playing against her ex.

Currently in the spotlight for her blossoming relationship with Australian striker Sam Kerr, Mewis previously shared her heart with England forward Rachel Daly.

Kerr and Daly will be going head-to-head on Wednesday with a World Cup final berth up for grabs.

There is no question of loyalty for Mewis, though, who will be 100 per cent behind her current partner Kerr after touching down in Sydney for the big match.

Mewis and Daly's story began as teammates on the Houston Dash in the American Major League Soccer competition.

Their friendship flourished into a romantic partnership in November 2017, adding a layer of intrigue to their on-pitch chemistry.

After two years together, Mewis and Daly decided to part ways, keeping the reasons behind their separation private. Despite this, they continued to be teammates until 2021.

Mewis embarked on a new chapter with NJ/NY Gotham FC, while Daly made her way back to England, joining Aston Villa.

In a twist of fate, Mewis' heart once again found its match, this time with Australian star Sam Kerr.

Though the exact genesis of their relationship remains shrouded, keen eyes caught Mewis consoling Kerr on the field during the USA's triumph over Australia in the Tokyo Olympics' bronze medal match of 2021.

Shortly after, the couple publicly confirmed their love story via a heartfelt Instagram post capturing a tender kiss.

For Kerr, this new romance marked a fresh beginning following the end of her seven-year relationship with fellow footballer Nikki Stanton.

The two briefly shared the field as teammates for the Chicago Red Stars from 2018 to 2019.

Kerr was also snapped sharing a kiss with Mewis after their historic quarter final win over France.

Mewis has been supporting her beau from the stands after the US were eliminated by Sweden.

The Matildas will play England in Wednesday's semi-final in Sydney with kick-off at 8pm.
