The Lionesses are wearing black armbands in their clash against Denmark at the Women's World Cup 2023 in honour of Trevor Francis.

Sarina Wiegman's side lined up donning the black armbands as a mark of respect for the former England forward, who passed away earlier this week after suffering a heart attack.

The former Birmingham City forward was laid to rest in Marbella earlier this week after passing away, aged 69.

England's women's national team opted to wear black armbands during their clash against Denmark as a sign of respect for the football legend.

Francis enjoyed a glittering playing career that saw him come through the ranks at Birmingham City in 1970 before going on to win two European Cups at Nottingham Forest.

He made headlines as Francis became the first player to be sold for £1million in 1979, joining Forest, where he made a name for himself.

The icon made 52 appearances for England, netting 12 goals in the process and is being remembered during the Women's World Cup.

The Lionesses will be hoping that they can grab their second victory of the tournament after beating Haiti 1-0 in the opening match.

England got off to a bright start, with Lauren James netting in the opening ten minutes against Denmark.
