Man United identify Brazilian forward Kerolin as a replacement for Russo

Brazilian forward Kerolin has emerged as Manchester United’s main transfer target as the club look to replace Alessia Russo.

United, who have also shown interest in Kerolin’s international team-mate Geyse, are understood to be prepared to make a big offer for the North Carolina Courage forward.

But Marc Skinner’s side face competition from several top European clubs and United are yet to agree a fee.

The forward is one of the top scorers in the National Women’s Soccer League in America, with eight goals in 13 games and was named in the division’s team of the month for June.

The 23-year-old is already considered to be one of the best players in the world and is set to play a key role for Brazil at this summer’s World Cup.

United are keen not to lose out to a rival after losing Russo on a free transfer to Arsenal.

The club also saw Ona Batlle join Barcelona after failing to agree a new contract with the Spanish full back.

United have managed to get one deal over the line, with Wales defender Gemma Evans signing on a free transfer from relegated Reading.

But the club’s priority is to strengthen in attack, with Champions League football on the horizon for 2023-2024.

United qualified for Europe for the first time after finishing second in the WSL last season and will subsequently need a bigger squad to compete on both fronts in the upcoming campaign.
