Matildas superstar Sam Kerr has been reunited with her American girlfriend Kristie Mewis, with the loved-up pair packing on the PDA in an adorable picture.
Kerr, fresh off yet another stunning season for Chelsea that included winning the WSL title, FA Cup and becoming the first woman to win consecutive Footballer of the Year awards, jet across the Atlantic as soon as her playing commitments were over to reunite with Mewis.
The 29-year-old is preparing to lead Australia in a home World Cup starting on July 20, but not before enjoying some well-earned rest and relaxation in the USA alongside her girlfriend.
The pair began dating in 2021, quickly becoming besotted while getting to know each other online during the Covid pandemic.
But with Kerr primarily based in the UK with Chelsea and Mewis a USA representative currently plying her trade for the New Jersey-based Gotham FC, a long-distance relationship is a reality of their busy lives.
Fortunately the pair have been able to spend some valuable time together Stateside, and Kerr was able to watch Mewis and her Gotham teammates go down to San Diego for a Pride Month encounter that celebrated the huge LGBTQI+ community in women's football.
One of the biggest power couples in female sport knows how to keep the spark alive when it comes to a long-distance relationship, and she loves sharing said spark with fans, friends and fellow football stars.
'We're not private people. I like sharing my story. I like sharing who I am outside of football. Football is 5 per cent of my life,' Kerr told UK publication, Gaffer, earlier this year.
'We set little milestones and we make time during the week where we'll watch the same show and FaceTime or have dinner together or something. But it's tough.
'I think the thing that keeps us going is that we can see an end point. We both just want each other to do so well in our careers. I don't think you could be in a long-distance relationship with someone who didn't get the sport.'
Mewis said it was special for the pair to be role models for gay women who don't come out for fear of homophobic abuse or rejection by society.
'I think just being out and being two girls in love, I think if we can change one or two people's lives and the way that they feel about each other and how comfortable they feel, then that means a lot to me. I love to share my relationship on social media,' the USA star said.
But in less than 50 days' time, they may be going into battle against each other.
Mewis has been in brilliant form in Gotham's midfield this season, with the side sitting fourth on the ladder, and is expected to make the USA's team for the World Cup, where they will be one of the favourites.
Kerr and her Matildas will also be one of the frontrunners to take out the crown in front of what are certain to be some raucous and adoring home crowds.
And don't expect either one of them to be holding back if the USA and Australia take on each other in the knockout stages.
'I hope people know that when it's training time or play time, it doesn't come into it,' Kerr said of whether the pair held back when they confront each other on the field in international matches.
'I remember one time in Newcastle (Australia) she came on, we were playing against each other, and we went in on each other. We'd kill each other.'
After a hectic period of non-stop football and travel, Kerr and her Matildas will next be in action for a friendly against France on July 14 in Melbourne to prepare for the World Cup.
