Retired Lioness Ellen White and husband Callum Convery have welcomed their first child, a daughter, the former England forward announced on social media.

White, 33, announced the end of her playing career in August, just weeks after helping England lift the Euro 2022 trophy on July 27, and in December revealed she was expecting.

On Monday night, she shared a picture of Convery carrying their newborn alongside a thank you message for her medical team at Tameside & Glossop IC NHS FT.

White, who earned 113 caps and scored a Lionesses-leading 52 goals for England, tweeted: 'Best daddy carrying our beautiful baby girl. We are so utterly besotted with you and you are so blinking cute.

'We are extremely grateful to all the professionals @tandgicft for your incredible support & dedication in helping with the safe arrival of our daughter.'

Lucy Bronze, Rachel Daly, Hannah Hampton and Fara Williams were among the past and present Lionesses who congratulated the former Manchester City forward in the comments.

Former England team-mate Beth Mead also posted a tribute, writing: 'Can't believe it, she's perfect. Congrats to you both.'

Jill Scott added: 'Awww congrats, so cute! Enjoy every minute.'

Steph Hughton said: 'So proud of you!!! So much love coming your way!'

The arrival of White's child comes seven months after she decided to hang up her boots - going out on a high after her Euro 2022 triumph with England.

'This has been one of the hardest decisions of my life but one that I know is right for me,' she said.

'This decision has always been one I have wanted to make on my terms. And this is my time to say goodbye to football and watch the next generation shine.

'It has been my greatest honour and privilege to play this game. In particular playing for England has and always will be the greatest gift. My dreams came true on July 31, winning the Euros and becoming a European champion.'

White started her career with Arsenal's academy before making her name at Chelsea - scoring 28 goals there before moving to Leeds Carnegie and later returning to Arsenal again.

She'd feature for Notts County, Birmingham City and finally Manchester City - where she finished her career, netting a total of 145 times in 305 appearances.
