Sean Dyche and Everton train as Storm Larisa brings UK snow

Sean Dyche has remained true to his snood and woolly hat ban despite Arctic temperatures as Everton prepare for their crunch Premier League clash with Brentford.

The Toffees boss made clear last month he wouldn't tolerate any items of clothing being worn in training sessions that can't be worn in matches.

And as Storm Larisa brought blizzards and sub-zero conditions to the UK, putting several weekend fixtures at risk of postponement, Dyche wasn't prepared to budge.

It made for some chilly-looking players as Everton trained at Finch Farm ahead of Saturday's vital contest at Goodison Park as they try to lift themselves out of the bottom three.

In fairness to Dyche, he didn't succumb to the temptation of pulling on a warm hat either though like most of the players, he did pair his tracksuit with gloves.

Despite Dyche's insistence on adherence to football's dress code, the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and James Tarkowski did swap shorts for jogging bottoms.

Having promised to make his players 'sweat' in their survival fight, quite literally when it came to the gruelling bleep test he made them do, Dyche addressed the snood and hat issue.

'This has been going round for years and it drives me mad,' he said.

Unless I've been out of the game for too long, you're not allowed to wear hats when you play on a Saturday, you're not allowed to wear snoods when you play on a Saturday and you have to, by the rules, wear shin pads. It is not rocket science.

'Everyone makes the mythical story that it's hard lines from Sean Dyche. It is just common sense.

'You train how you play, how can you train how you play if you have 14 snoods on, 15 hats and leggings, no shin pads, white socks, it's not relevant.

'I told the players, 'these myths I'm going to bust them for you right now.'

Hats and snoods were very much the order of the day, however, as Leicester City trained ahead of their crunch home game with Chelsea on Saturday afternoon.

The Foxes, in 15th but just two points clear of the relegation places, trained in near-blizzard conditions at Seagrave.

Wout Faes was one of the few not wearing a hat to keep their head warm, though his mop of curly hair probably has a similar effect.

Over at Wolverhampton Wanderers, who play Newcastle on Sunday, Matheus Nunes and his team-mates enjoyed a snowball fight as their training pitches were blanketed in several inches of the white stuff.

It now only remains to be seen how much of the Premier League, EFL and non-league programme survives the big freeze this weekend as clubs scramble to clear pitches and terraces.

The promotion clash in League Two between Mansfield Town and Leyton Orient at the One Call Stadium has already been postponed following a pitch inspection at 10am on Friday morning.

It's expected several other games will suffer a similar fate on safety grounds with concerns over supporters and players alike.
