Torino started best and managed to push Fiorentina back in the initial minutes. Sasa Lukic had the first attempt for the home side, but Fiorentina then managed to get a hold of the game.
Dusan Vlahovic was sent through by Franck Ribery after 10 minutes and sprung the offside trap with an excellent first touch, but the side-footed finish hit the base of the post.
The Serbian, who has been in great form of late, should have done better but Fiorentina registered the first big chance of the game.
Torino later called for a penalty when Lukic was played through over the top and his header was initially saved by Bartlomiej Dragowski.
The Torino player remained down after clashing with the goalkeeper but the referee waved play on.
The Granata striker Zaza left the cross bar shaking with an attempt on half-volley.
Belotti nodded the ball down, Zaza got away from his marker and smashed the ball against the crossbar. One could say that he didn’t need all of that power and a slightly more controlled finish could have given the hosts a lead at the break.
It has been a tight affair, but both teams feel they could have broken the deadlock here.
