OFFICIAL: Spartak Moscow sign Roma striker Ezequiel Ponce for reported €8m

Spartak Moscow have announced the signing of Roma striker Ezequiel Ponce on a permanent deal.

A statement on Spartak’s website confirms Ponce has put pen to paper on ‘a long-term agreement’ with the club.

The 22-year-old scored 21 goals for AEK Athens last season, but their option to buy was not exercised.

RomaPress reports the Giallorossi will receive €8m from his sale, €7.2m of which will go towards capital gains.

Roma beat off competition from the likes of Tottenham Hotspur to sign the Argentine from Newell’s Old Boys in 2015.

However, he did not play a single competitive match for the Lupi, instead spending time on loan at Granada, Lille and AEK.

Spartak, for their part, last won the Russian title two years ago under former Juventus man Massimo Carrera.
