Dwight Gayle could return to West Brom next season as part of any deal that allows Newcastle United to sign Salomon Rondon.

New Albion boss Slaven Bilic is reluctant to lose Gayle who scored 24 goals during a successful loan spell at The Hawthorns last year and settled well with his family in the West Midlands.

West Brom were unable to make Gayle's signing from Newcastle permanent in May because of his Premier League wages but talks will take place to see if the 28-year-old can stay as part of a package that would also keep Rondon at St James' Park.

The Venezuelan was a huge hit on loan from Albion last season and is a favourite of manager Rafa Benitez.

Bilic, 50, was appointed at West Brom last week and will have a busy in-tray when he starts work following a short family holiday.

Some of his squad including striker Jay Rodriguez may fancy a move to the Premier League and Bilic will look to add young reinforcements to try and duplicate Aston Villa's success with Tammy Abraham last season.

Meanwhile, West Brom's Championship rivals Stoke City could sign up to five players to boost their promotion credentials.

Former Manchester United forward Nick Powell has agreed to join from Wigan along with Millwall striker Lee Gregory and Barnsley goalkeeper Adam Davies.

Potteries boss Nathan Jones would also like £2million Barnsley defender Liam Lindsay and midfielder Jordan Cousins who made 33 appearances for QPR last season.
