On this day in 2017, Giroud scored magnificent scorpion for Arsenal

As the ball arrived, a sprinting Giroud turned to stick out his left foot, flicked the ball over his head and saw it arc over the leap of Palace goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey, off the woodwork and into the net.

The former Gunners forward has taken home the Puskas prize for this scorpion kick at the end of a superb team move.

Giroud's stunning 'scorpion-kick' beat off competition from Venezuela's Deyna Castellanos and South African goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke.

On this day in 2017, Oscar moved from Chelsea to Chinese side Shanghai SIPG for £52m

The Brazilian midfielder spent four years at Stamford Bridge, winning the Premier League, Europa League and League Cup during that time.

Oscar seals first Chinese Super League title with Shanghai SIPG this season.

He scored 12 and set up 18 in 28 appearances in the title-winning season.

On this day in 2014, Juan Mata played his last Chelsea game

In August 2011, Mata signed for Chelsea for a fee believed to be in the region of €28 million, and in his debut season was part of the team that won the Champions League and the FA Cup. The following year, Chelsea won the Europa League, making Mata and teammate Torres the first players to hold the Champions League, Europa League, World Cup, and the European Championships simultaneously. 

After falling out of favour at Chelsea under Mourinho, Mata was sold to Manchester United in January 2014, for a fee of £37.1 million.

On this day in 1972, France legend Lilian Thuram was born

Lilian Thuram is the most capped player in the history of France with 142 appearances between 1994 and 2008.

Thuram played at the top flight in France, Italy and Spain for over 15 seasons, including ten in Parma and Juventus. With France, Thuram won the 1998 FIFA World Cup and Euro 2000, and was in the runner-up squad for the 2006 World Cup. A quick, powerful and versatile player, he was capable of playing both as a centre-back or as a right-back, and was competent both offensively and defensively. Despite his physical and aggressive playing style, Thuram has been described as a "studious" figure off the pitch; in 2010, he became a UNICEF ambassador and has stood out for his initiatives to fight against racism.

On this day in 1992, ex-Arsenal star Jack Wilshere was born

Wilshere came up through Arsenal's youth academy and impressed from an early age. He made his first-team debut in 2008, becoming Arsenal's youngest ever league debutant at the age of 16 years, 256 days. Wilshere has earned a number of accolades including the PFA Young Player of the Year award, selection to the 2010–11 PFA Team of the Year, and Arsenal's Player of the Season award, as voted for by fans for his performances in his first full campaign for Arsenal during the 2010–11 season.

On 19 June 2018, Wilshere announced that he would be leaving Arsenal, with his contract due to expire at the end of the month.

On this day in 1968, Croatia legend Davor Suker was born

Suker helped Madrid claim the Liga and Champions League titles as well. A move to Arsenal saw him distinguish himself throughout the Gunners' run to the UEFA Cup final of 2000. He then had a spell with West Ham, then closed his career playing for 1860 Munich. The crowning moment of Šuker's career was the 1998 World Cup in France, where he won the Golden Boot by scoring six goals in seven matches. He also won the Silver Ball as the second-best player of tournament, behind Ronaldo. His goal-scoring feats proved instrumental in the Croatians winning the bronze medal in their debut World Cup. 

On this day in 1981, former Madrid & Arsenal star Baptista was born

Baptista signed for Sevilla FC in 2003. Upon signing for Sevilla, he was converted into a forward, and in his two seasons, he scored 50 goals, leading to his 2005 transfer to Spanish giants Real Madrid. After two unsuccessful seasons at Real Madrid with a loan spell at Arsenal sandwiched in between, Baptista transferred to Roma. In January 2011 he returned to Spain by signing for Málaga, and two years later went back to Brazil with Cruzeiro.

He is nicknamed "The Beast" due to his size and physical presence on the football field.

On this day in 1977, former Bayern star Hasan Salihamidžić was born

Salihamidžić usually played as a right midfielder, right back or left back. He was a quick and energetic player with an extremely high work rate. He was also gifted with good crossing and passing abilities, which allowed him to create chances for his teammates.

He made a name for himself while playing for Bayern Munich for nine seasons with whom he won the Bundesliga title six times, DFB-Pokal title four times and the 2000–01 Champions League. He also played for Juventus for four seasons.

He is currently working as a sporting director for Bayern.
