On this day in 2009, Torres scored his 50th league goal for Liverpool
On 29 December 2009, Spanish striker Fernando Torres scored his 50th league goal for Liverpool, reaching that milestone faster than any other player in the club's history.
It was Torres' 72nd league match for Liverpool, eight matches fewer than the club's former record-holder Sam Raybould and 12 matches fewer than Liverpool's all-time leading goalscorer, Ian Rush.
On this day in 2007, Berbatov scored four in a 10-goal thriller
The match between Tottenham and Reading on December 29th, 2007 was a classical Premier League game with 10 goals in total.
Spurs striker Dimitar Berbatov scored four as the hosts won 6-4 with Malbranque and Defoe's goals in two minutes to hit the second-highest scoring mark since the creation of the Premier League in 1992.
The first was a 7-4 game between Reading and Portsmouth on 29 September in the same year, in which Reading also lost.

On this day in 2001, Xabi Alonso made international debut for Basque Country national team
On 29 December 2001, Xabi Alonso made his full international debut. And it wasn't for Spain.
Alonso, who was born in the Basque city of Tolosa, also is qualified to play for the Basque Country national team. And in 2001, manager Jose Angel Iribar called Alonso up for a friendly against Ghana.
Although he played primarily for Spain, with 114 appearances between 2003 and 2014, he made four other appearances for the Basque Country, most recently in 2012.
