On this day in 1989, Milan legend Marco van Basten won Ballon d'Or
In 1989, the Swan wins the award for the second time in a row and Franco Baresi is the runner-up followed by Frank Rijkaard.
He scored 19 goals in Serie A and scored two goals in the final of the European Cup as Milan triumphed against Steaua București.
On this day in 1990, Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey born
Ramsey moved to Arsenal in 2008 in a £5 million deal, where he quickly gained first-team experience. However, his career stalled significantly after he suffered a broken leg in a match against Stoke City. After two loan spells away from Arsenal, he returned to full fitness and re-established himself as a regular starter during the 2011–12 season. Ramsey was a key player for Arsenal in the 2013–14 season, scoring 16 goals in all competitions, including the winner in the 2014 FA Cup Final against Hull City. He also played in the 2015 FA Cup Final, which Arsenal won, and scored a second FA Cup winning goal in 2017.
On this day in 1986, Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris born
Lloris is described as a goalkeeper who "boasts lightning reflexes and good decision-making" and is "a formidable opponent in one-on-one situations". Lloris also "commands his box well"
Lloris signed for Tottenham Hotspur on 31 August 2012 for €10 million and €5 million variable.
On 17 April 2018, Lloris made his 250th appearance for Tottenham in a 1–1 draw with Brighton. In doing so, he became only the 61st player to achieve the milestone for the club.
On this day in 1999, Chelsea became the first EPL team to field all-foreign starting XI
Chelsea went on to win 1-2, with Flo (pictured) scoring both of their goals (18', 43'), while Southampton's goal was an 80th-minute consolation strike from Kevin Davies.
To fill in the gaps, Vialli fielded a starting eleven that consisted of Ed De Goey (Netherlands), Albert Ferrer (Spain), Frank Leboeuf (France), Emerson Thome (Brazil), Dan Petrescu (Romania), Celestine Babyaro (Nigeria), Gus Poyet (Uruguay), Didier Deschamps (France), Roberto Di Matteo (Italy), Gabriele Ambrosetti (Italy), and Tore André Flo (Norway). It was the the first time in the history of British football that a team put out a starting line-up without a single British player.
On this day in 2015, Leicester suffered one of only three defeats in their title winning season
The Reds dominated the first half at Anfield, but failed to fully test Foxes keeper Kasper Schmeichel. they were rewarded when Roberto Firmino's pull-back from the left was steered in by a stretching Benteke.
Leicester offered little threat, Nathan Dyer going closest as they failed to score for the first time this season.
On this day in 1954, Schiaffino scored superb diving header for Milan
Schiaffino was an Italian-Uruguayan football player who played as an attacking midfielder or forward. A highly skilful and creative playmaker.
He was ranked as the best Uruguayan footballer of all time by an IFFHS poll and the 17th greatest player of the twentieth century.
On this day in 1990, Denis Cheryshev born
Cheryshev is a youth product of Real Madrid, He then had loan spells at Sevilla, Villarreal and Valencia before joining Villarreal permanently in 2016, and returned to Valencia on loan two years later.
He made his World Cup debut on 14 June, replacing the injured Dzagoev midway through the first half of the group stage opener against Saudi Arabia and scoring twice in a 5–0 win. He scored his third goal in the tournament against Egypt in a 3–1 victory, adding another in the quarter-finals when he curled a strike past Croatia's Subašić from just outside the 18-yard area to open the scoring.
