A new policy might surprise some fans heading to the Premier League derby
A change in bag policy at Wembley might catch out Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea fans on Saturday.
Wembley introduced their new ‘Restricted Bag Policy’ for England’s friendly match against the USA last week and it will now apply to all fixtures at the venue – including the London derby.
Spurs will also be using a similar bag policy when their new stadium opens.
All ticket holders are prohibited from bringing a bag into the stadium unless it adheres to the Wembley Stadium regulations outlined as follows:
- Bags to be no larger than A4 in size
- Height 297mm (11.7 inches)
- Width 210mm (8.27 inches)
- Depth 210mm (8.27 inches)
Fans carrying bags that do not meet the criteria will not be permitted entry. The approved criteria is in reference to the dimensions of the bag itself - bags that are half full and folded to reduce overall size will not be accepted.
This policy affects all ticket holders including hospitality guests, box holders, board members and players/family and friends who enter the building through the main entrances or turnstiles with a ticket.
Wembley has a 100 per cent searching process, including search dogs for pyrotechnics, and they do not compromise this if queues start to form.
The turnstiles will open at approximately 4pm ahead of the 5.30pm kick off on Saturday. Club Wembley guests, meanwhile, will be able to enter the stadium from 3pm.
Bags will be checked at an outer cordon and a bag gauge will be used for any dispute on size. All matchday merchandise purchases will be supplied in a clear plastic bag in line with this policy and will be admissible.
