After 22 years of Arsene Wenger, there will finally be a new man in the dugout on European nights at Arsenal.

Unai Emery takes charge of his first European clash as Arsenal manager on Thursday when they take on Ukrainian minnows Vorskla at the Emirates under the lights.

After three wins on the trot in the Premier League, momentum is starting to gradually build under Emery and there are various reasons for Arsenal to feel positive ahead of their latest European adventure.

While winning the Premier League is an unrealistic task in Emery's first campaign at the Emirates, he will want to make a real statement of intent by achieving something former long-serving manager Wenger failed to do so - conquering in Europe.

Emery's record in the Europa League is second to none and there is no doubt he will want to clinch the title in Baku come May, something which he has routinely achieved in recent years.

The Spaniard won three consecutive Europa League titles while manager of Sevilla in 2014, 2015, 2016 - with their last triumph coming against Liverpool in Basel.

Only Giovanni Trapattoni matches Emery's remarkable record in Europe's second tier competition.

The former Italian manager also won three UEFA Cups, two with Serie A giants Juventus in 1977 and 1993 and one while in charge of Inter Milan in 1991.

But Emery will be hoping to go one better than Trapattoni and what better way to endear yourself to the Arsenal fans by achieving European glory in your first season at a new club.

The 46-year-old has taken charge of 67 matches in the Europa League, winning a total of 34 games, losing 23 and drawing just 10.

During his time managing in the competition, his Valencia and Sevilla sides have scored 118 times and shipped 70 goals.

Emery knows too well that to win it for an unprecedented fourth time will be difficult, with the likes of Chelsea, AC Milan and his former club Sevilla all competing alongside the Gunners for the title.

But the Spaniard has the know-how in the Europa League and will be taking the competition seriously as he looks to regain Arsenal's status in the Champions League.

The Gunners came so close to achieving that last season but were defeated by eventual winners Atletico Madrid over two legs in the semi-finals.

And speaking ahead of Thursday's clash at the Emirates, which Arsenal are huge favourites to win, Emery has admitted he is desperate to finally end the club's 24-year wait for a European trophy.

The 46-year-old said: 'Every title for us is very important. In 2000, Arsenal played the final against Galatasaray but didn't win. And also, Arsenal played the final in 2006 in the Champions League and also didn't win.

'In my career, the ambition is very important for continuing to improve and continuing to achieve the objectives in my career personally and with the team. I want to play for every title going forward.'

Emery will ring the changes for the Vorskla clash, with Bernd Leno set to make his Arsenal debut and fellow new boy Lucas Torreira expected to start for the first time.

The Arsenal boss will freshen things up on Thursday ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash at home to Everton.

While Emery's main focus will be getting Arsenal back into the top four, he will no doubt have one eye on changing the club's European history book.
