JDT provide update on Fernando Marquez injury

Johor Darul Ta'zim advanced to the Malaysia Cup QF but it came at a cost as main striker Fernando Marquez suffered a serious injury in the match.

Marquez will have to undergo surgery after the heavy injury he picked up in the Malaysia Cup group stage match for Johor Darul Ta'zim against MIFA on Sunday. The Argentine suffered a serious head injury in the clash that led to JDT's first goal and was immediately taken to the hospital.

The striker could be seen laying on the ground motionless after the clash and that sparked chaos all over the pitch as medical staffs were rushed onto the pitch to attend to him. Minutes later Marquez was helped to his feet and onto the ambulance with his face and attire covered in blood.

JDT have released an update on his situation with cuts above his eye and now he will be required to go into surgery to fix fractures in his face. The collision happened as Marquez was jumping to head the ball that was pumped in from the wings.

That means that Marquez will miss the upcoming quarterfinal encounter against Pahang and will need several weeks of healing. But if JDT can make it all the way to the final, their fans may yet not have seen the last of Marquez in action.
