Tutu Bose issues apology

Mohun Bagan president Swapan Sadhan Bose, popularly known as Tutu Bose, has issued an apology over the sexist remarks that he made during the half-time break of Mohun Bagan's last match against Calcutta Customs on Wednesday.

Bagan were leading 2-0 over Calcutta Customs at the break and the result as it stood meant the Mariners would go onto win their 30th CFL title, their first since 2009. When the presenter asked Bose for his reactions on the potential chances of lifting silverware the president reply was shocking to say the least.

"Daughters were being born for the last seven years, suddenly a son has been born. How would you like it if that was the case with you? I have the same feeling," giggled Bose.

The administrator drew flak for his insensitive comments from football fans across the country which might have forced him to issue a press release stating his apology.

"During halftime, I made a statement, out of emotion and excitement, which in hindsight I feel I should not have made. On this day of immense happiness, I sincerely did not want to hurt anybody's sentiments as I know some of my words have hurt people who are very very dear to me. I apologise and seek for their forgiveness and I am sad at my utterances.

"In my own house I have my daughters-in-law and granddaughter and I know the importance of a woman's role in any family and how integral and precious they are. So I am withdrawing my statement and hurting anybody's feelings was the last thing on my mind," stated Bose.

The bigoted comments were followed by laughs in agreement by the people who surrounded him and the presenter himself chuckled on the chauvinistic reply out of awkwardness.Interestingly, Mohun Bagan club members go on to vote to elect their executive committee in the coming weeks and Bose and his camp is one of the candidates. It remains to be seen if his opponents, the Anjan Mitra faction, led by Sohini Mitra Chaubey, a woman herself uses this against him.
