The Taifa Stars held Uganda in Kampala as they continued their quest to pick a ticket to Afcon 2019 for the first time in 38 years

Tanzania coach Emmanuel Amuneke has expressed his support to the east Africans’ aim of building a new generation of players.

The Taifa Stars played a 0-0 draw with Uganda at the Mandela National Stadium in Saturday’s African Cup of Nations qualifiers. The result has seen them move to the second spot in the Group L table with two points.

Tanzania last qualified for an Afcon tournament in 1980 and the 47-year-old gaffer is proud of his team’s performance in Kampala as they continue their quest to nick a place in Cameroon next year.

“I am proud that this team really wants to build the new generation from among the old and new generations," Amuneke told KweséESPN.

"We are going to enjoy this moment before we travel back and continue to work hard ahead of the next game away to Cape Verde.

"One of our objectives has been achieved; coming here to Uganda to get a good result.

"I am proud of the players," he continued. "I have only spent 10 days with them, and they have been strong and got a point.

"I'm happy with their character. I told them we are going to Uganda to fight and I am happy with what they have shown today."

The Taifa Stars lock horns with Cape Verde in their next qualifying game on October 9.
