Goal takes a look at the seven overseas players signed by ATK ahead of the upcoming season of the Indian Super League...
With the fifth edition of the Indian Super League (ISL) fast approaching, the 10 teams have been busy finalising their rosters. With less than a month to go for the new season to kick-off, we take a look at how the teams have shaped up with respect to their overseas signings.
Here, we take a look at the seven foreigners who will turn out for the Kolkata-based side.
ATK splurged in the transfer market early in the summer to rope in FC Goa's star performer from last season. The Spaniard had wreaked havoc upon defences alongside Ferran Corominas for the Gaurs during their semi-final run last season. He spent the majority of his professional career is Spain and has played for Espanyol in the La Liga before his stint in India.
The experienced centre-back left Bengaluru FC after five seasons to join the two-time ISL winners. The defender, who has featured for Northampton Town in League Two and Middlesbrough in the Premier League, adds solidity to ATK's new-look squad.
The strong central defender followed his head coach Steve Coppell from Jamshedpur FC to ATK. He had made 15 appearances for the Men of Steel in the fourth season of ISL and had one red card to his name. The Cameroonian centre-back played for NorthEast United in 2015 and has played in the Premier League for Burnley and Reading.
After his stint with Mumbai City in ISL last season, the 31-year-old Brazilian forward joined Botafogo SP and has now ended up at ATK. He scored seven goals in 18 matches for the Islanders last season and with Lanzarote supplying him from midfield, Santos will be expected to rack up plenty of goals for ATK this season.
After playing 17 matches for Mumbai City last season, Viera's short stint in the second tier of the Japanese league with Renafo Yamaguchi ended when ATK came calling. The Brazilian defender can also slot into the midfield as and when required and he will be a major trump card for Coppell in the fifth season of ISL.
The Nigeria striker took the league by storm in the second-half of last season with Delhi Dynamos. The 35-year-old scored 13 goals in 15 appearances for the Lions and will look to replicate that form with ATK. He had played for Pune City in 2015.
ATK gaffer Steve Coppell is an advocate of defensive discipline and Mamouni would be an ideal partner for Pronay Halder at the centre of the park to break up attacks. The 27-year-old Moroccan defensive midfielder started his professional career with Moghreb de Tetouan back in 2010 and has won the domestic league title with Tetouan in 2012, 2014, and 2018.
