The Chadian forward’s terrific form for Cotonsport saw him needing no trial as he earned a four-year deal with the two-time European champions
Chadian striker Marius Mouandilmadji says the presence of Cameroon international forward Vincent Aboubakar at FC Porto influenced his decision to join the Portuguese giants.
After scoring a remarkable 18 goals for Cotonsport in the Cameroon Elite One League during his seven-month stint at the club, Mouandilmadji attracted interest from a number of European clubs.
But the 28-time Portuguese champions won the signature of the 2017 Chad Footballer of the Year, who admits it was not an easy decision for him to settle for Porto.
Meanwhile, teaming up with former Cotonsport striker Aboubakar at the Estadio Do Dragao excites Mouandilmadji.
“It was not easy (to choose Porto) because when you are asked to decide, you must keep a cool head and have the clarity to make the right choice,” Mouandilmadji told Camfoot.
“I think I made the right decision for the rest of my career. What was important for me was to find a club that will give me the best coaching, to keep learning and progressing. I think it will be the case here because it's a club that has a great history.
“The presence of a coach like Sergio Conceiçao motivated me a lot. Yes, our reputable coach trusts young players and that motivates me. Finally, the presence of Aboubakar Vincent, a former Cotonsport player encouraged me a lot.”
The arrival of Mouandilmadji will see Porto boasting five African strikers in their squad this season barring the possibility of one of them moving away from the club.
Porto’s top-scorer last season and Mali forward Moussa Marega, Algeria captain Yacine Brahimi, and Ghana international Majeed Waris are also part of Porto’s strike force.
