The Three Lions will be intent observers as Group G comes to a conclusion on Thursday, with their potential opponents in the last 16 being decided

England have booked their place in the last 16 of the World Cup, but the identity of their opponents in the next stage won't be finalised until the final round of group games on Thursday June 28.

The Three Lions are currently leading Group G ahead of Belgium by virtue of fair play points, but that could change depending on the outcome of their match against the Red Devils on Thursday.

As laid out before the tournament kicked off, Group G's representatives will be paired with the teams that emerge from Group H.

However, while England and Belgium are both assured of their place in the next round, Group H is much more volatile and three teams remain in with a chance of going through.

There are a number of different possible outcomes for England, depending on how they do against Belgium and also on how Group G finishes.

If England draw with (provided they still have a better fair play points tally) or defeat Belgium in their final game of Group G they will finish top, meaning that they will face the runner-up from Group H.

However, if they lose to Eden Hazard and Co. they will be paired with the Group H winners.

England will end up facing one of Japan, Senegal or Colombia in the last 16 in Russia.

If things remain as they are in both groups, Gareth Southgate's side will end up taking on Senegal.

In order for that to happen, England will have to draw or win against Belgium to stay top of Group G. Then, a Senegal draw against Colombia and a Japan win over Poland would see the West African side finish second in Group H.

The Three Lions could also end up playing Senegal if they finish second in Group G, provided Senegal beat or draw with Colombia and Japan draw or lose to Poland.

In the event that England top their group a last 16 match-up with Japan could happen if Japan lose or draw against Poland and Colombia beat Senegal.

Alternatively, if England finish second, they could end up playing Japan if the Asian outfit beat Poland and Senegal draw or lose to Colombia.

A worst case scenario for England in the last 16 would probably be a meeting with Colombia, who, despite being third in Group H, can still potentially go through.

If England manage to finish top, they will end up facing Colombia in the event that the South Americans draw with Senegal and Japan lose to Poland.

If Southgate's side lose to Belgium and finish second, they would face Colombia in the last 16 if Jose Pekerman's side beat Senegal and Japan draw with or lose to Poland.
