NFL shield laid onto artificial pitch as work continues on Tottenham's new stadium

Work continued on Tottenham's new 62,000-seater stadium on Tuesday, with the NFL shield being laid on the artificial surface that will sit directly below a fully retractable grass pitch.

Spurs released a sped up 25-second video across their social media channels that showed the official NFL logo being unveiled on one section of the synthetic turf by workmen.

A deal was first struck between the Premier League club and American football league back in July 2015 to host a minimum of two NFL games per season at their new White Hart Lane home, though only one fixture is scheduled for 2018 with the Seattle Seahawks and Oakland Raiders set to square off in north London on October 14 - week six of the 2018 season.

Wembley Stadium will host another two games as the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles take on London regulars the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Los Angeles Chargers battle the Tennessee Titans, but there are none planned for Twickenham with the English capital hosting one less contest than in 2017.

Tottenham confirmed last week that their first home match at the new £850million ground would be against Liverpool on September 15.

Mauricio Pochettino's side were granted a temporary return to Wembley - where they spent the entirety of last season - for the second clash of the 2018-19 campaign against newly-promoted London rivals Fulham as redevelopments are completed and four operational test events can be held before the official opening.

They begin the season away to Newcastle United and also travel to Manchester United and Watford before Liverpool's visit to their new surroundings ahead of the first international break. Tottenham will also be permitted to play away in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

Spurs' world-first dividing retractable pitch system is designed and built by Sheffield engineering company SCX and means the venue can be used for NFL games, music concerts and other events in addition to regular football matches.

The grass turf will sit in three pitch-long steel trays weighing more than 3,000 tonnes each, allowing it to be slid under the South Stand to uncover the artificial surface in a process that is expected to take approximately 25 minutes. There will also be NFL-sized locker rooms and dedicated media and medical facilities for visiting teams.
