Goal brings you all the details of Group B, including fixtures, standings and squads for Spain and Portugal.
One of the most exciting matches to look forward to in this summer's World Cup is the Group B clash between Spain and Portugal on June 15 at the Mordovia Arena in Saransk.
The two countries have a long history of rivalry spanning several tournaments and decades, with Spain beating Portugal on their way to winning their last two major tournaments.
Goal takes a look at the rundown of the Group B fixtures ahead of the June start, as well as what to expect from each team and more.
World Cup 2018 - Group B Fixtures
Portugal and Spain are the two heavy favourites to make it out of their group, though Iran and Morocco could have some cards up their sleeves to pull off a major upset.
Cristiano Ronaldo will no doubt be buoyed by his Champions League victory over Liverpool, as well as his European Championship glory from 2016, and will be looking to lead his country to one more day of glory should he hang his national team boots soon. All eyes will be on the Real Madrid striker as Portugal have never before won a World Cup, their best finish being third place in 1966. He needs just seven goals to become Portugal's all-time leading goal-scorer at the World Cup finals, though he has scored just one goal in each World Cup since 2006.
Spain are a different side to the one that was knocked out early of the 2014 World Cup by the Netherlands, and features a mix of fresh talent and veterans of the old guard including Isco, David de Gea, Marco Asensio and Andres Iniesta, David Silva and Gerard Pique.
Spain – winners of three major tournaments before their humiliating exit in 2014 – will be looking to redeem themselves this summer in Russia, though their lack of obvious attacking options (apart from Diego Costa) may be their undoing. Their options in defence and midfield are what still makes them a threat, however, and with so many experienced World Cup winners still in their squad, they have every chance of making a strong impression at the tournament.
The Morocco side also features 19-year-old defender Hakimi, who enjoyed a successful season with the club, and in December became only the sixth African to join an illustrious list of Real Madrid scorers.
It will be an interesting campaign for Morocco, who have put in a bid to host the 2026 World Cup and will challenge the joint nations of the US, Canada and Mexico as tournament hosters.
The Iran national team topped their qualification group with 22 points from 10 matches and also managed to not lose a single match when placed in a group with South Korea and 2022 World Cup hosts Qatar.
