Yesterday our Fans have done a great job of introducing Nigeria! Here are part of them. Let's have a look at them!

@Victadrid: Nigeria is the most populous black country in the world - 180 million people - located at the western part of Africa. It is marked by 3 major tribes, 36 states, 1 Federal capital territory and 6 geopolitical zones. It also prides itself on having the largest economy in Africa.

Nigeria is a sport loving country, with football the most popularly enjoyed sport. There are other popular sports like Boxing and Table Tennis; but they are not half as popular, in Nigeria, as football. Football in Nigeria isn't just a sport, it's a means of expression.. Being a developing country, not every youth has the opportunity of achieving a white collar career or even affording quality education. Football has served as a get away card and liberation from poverty for many of our talented young men... And women. Not long ago, Kelechi Nwakli, the Arsenal prodigy who scored Nigeria's first goal against Atletico was still living in poverty in Eziobodo, a village neighboring the Federal University of Technology, Owerri.. As a student I watched him play dedicatedly, day in day out, in a small field beside my hostel.. We had a nickname for him: Kaka, because he was such a joyful sight to behold when with the ball.. Today his talent has made him standout on Google.. His elder brother (Chidiebere Nwakali), who also featured in the match against Atletico, has a similar story as he managed a public game shop in a small kiosk in their village at the time. However later went on to win the U17 world cup and was snapped up by Manchester City with Kelechi Iheanacho.

We have produced some world beaters in the sport from similarly poor backgrounds some of whom are: Jay Jay Okocha, Kanu Nwankwo, Mikel Obi and Taribo West. Today they are the inspiration for our next generation of stars. We hope to defy all odds and leave our mark in Russia like we've done in the U17 category of the world cup where we've won an unmatched 5 titles.. #Powerofnaija

@ AremuT:

Though Lagos is the most popular city in Nigeria, the capita of Nigeria is Abuja. Lagos was the capital of Nigeria at independence in 1960. It was moved to Abuja in the early nineties for security reason as it was viewed that the country would be vulnerable since its capital which was Lagos then was located at the border of the country. so, it was thought that it made security sense to shift the capital to the centre of the nation. The search for the centre took our leaders to Abuja and then the process of building a new capital begun. After it was completed, the seat of government was relocated to Abuja. Consequently, muiltinational companies and another stake holders in the Nigeria's economy began to locate their headquarters in Abuja. Though Abuja got the meeting capital from Lagos, it wasn't able to take the popularity of Lagos because of the inherent natural and artificial resources found in it. Most importantly, the water through with Nigeria trades with many neighbouring countries is located in Lagos. Obviously, Abuja looks more beautiful than Lagos but the political giants ruling Lagos have really worked hard to make Lagos the most organized city in Nigeria. I think they are almost there.

Nigeria's national team image has undergone much evolution throughout its history. Prior to independence, they were called the Red Devils due to their red topped kits. [8] The name was changed to the Green Eagles after independence in reference to the Nigerian

state flag as well as the eagle which adorns the country's coat of arms. During the 1988 Africa Cup of Nations, they were still called the Green Eagles, but following their controversial loss in the final, the team's name was changed to the "Super Eagles.Today, only the senior men's national team uses the nickname. The women's national team is called the "Super Falcons", and Nigeria's underage male teams are nicknamed the "Flying Eagles" & the "Golden Eaglets".Many important matches have been played against various nations who have been occasional rivals. Of these nations, Ghana is widely considered Nigeria's primary rival as the two sides have met one another more than any other opponent. The record is dominated by Ghana although Nigeria has enjoyed periods of success. The most notable of these periods are the early contests during the 1950s, and matches that took place in the early 2000s.

FIFA lists the first official match between the two as a World Cup qualifier match in 1960. However both national teams had already engaged in competitive matches dating back to 1950. The national teams of these two West African countries were formed during the time in which both remained protectorates of the British Empire . At that time the modern day nation of Ghana was known as the Gold Coast.

Nigeria , prior to adopting the national colors of green and white, wore scarlet tops over white shorts and were known as the "Red Devils".The two sides played for several rivalry and tournament cups during this period in which full international competition was barred to them.

@Okonye:

Nigeria's neighbors to the east, Cameroon , have also played Nigeria a number of times over the years. The teams have met three times in the African Cup of Nations Final with Cameroon winning each time. Both carry histories of continental success and World Cup representation that is nearly unrivaled on the African continent.

There is also a number of competitive matches with Algeria dating back to the 1970s. The two sides met twice in the African Cup of Nations finals, with each nation splitting the win totals. It was a 1–1 draw in Algeria on October 8, 1993 that enabled Nigeria to claim its first World Cup berth in the 1994 edition of the tournament.

Nigeria's western neighbor, Benin , has played competitive matches with the team since the period of European colonization when they were known as Dahomey. But with only two wins and two draws to Benin's credit against Nigeria's fourteen wins, and with the sides having only met six times since 1980, Benin remains a lightly regarded opponent.
