A Premier League star and his mother have been spared jail over a 90 second 'Wild West' brawl that erupted in a nightclub's VIP area.

Newcastle United winger Rolando Aarons was on a night out with friends and family when trouble flared after men started 'bumping and grinding against his aunt.'

Bottles and tables where thrown when Aaron's group, who were out celebrating his child's first birthday, clashed with at least five men in the trendy Livello bar on Newcastle's Quayside.

The violence began while Aarons' aunt was dancing with a man from another group in the club.

One of his friends started videoing them in what a witness at the time described as 'bumping and grinding.'

But when Aarons saw what was happening he stepped in to ask them to stop and they did.

Moments later however he saw fingers being pointed at him and went over to the other men.

He aimed what was described as 'a footballers head butt' - which may not have connected with anyone - but it was enough to spark mayhem.

At the time of the incident in October 2016, an eyewitness told The Sun: 'He (Aarons) was having a great time.

'But he noticed eight to ten blokes trying to bump and grind with his auntie on the dance floor.

'He went over and told them to stop. His view was that they'd had their fun and it was going too far.

'He made his views pretty clear and that's when all hell broke loose. They were throwing tables and bottles of champagne.'

Aarons, who was born in Jamaica and raised in Bristol, made an immediate impact when he broke into the Newcastle United first team.

But he suffered injury set-backs and has now been loaned out to Hellas Verona in Italy.

Aarons received a 10 month sentence suspended for 12 months and an order to do 100 hours unpaid work.

His mother, 46, was sentenced to 28 weeks suspended for 12 months and was put on a curfew under electronic tag between 10pm and 7am.

The England under-20 player, alongside his mother and four others were all due to stand trial on a charge of violent disorder.

But before a jury was sworn, five of them, including Jamaican-born Aarons, pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of affray, which carries a maximum jail term of three years.
