Manchester United legend Paul Scholes suggested Alexis Sanchez's performances 'can't get any worse' and he must improve quickly after a dismal FA Cup final display at Wembley.
Scholes has been a regular critic of the Chilean since he moved from Arsenal to United in January and having failed to inspire Jose Mourinho's side to victory at Wembley on Saturday, Scholes believed Sanchez's performances cannot get any worse.
'His performances, well they have to improve. They can’t get any worse to be honest with you,' Scholes told BT Sport.
‘I think the next few games of next season are vital to him, he needs to get fans believing again and believing they are going to get close to City. They need a big player.
‘Do they (have big players)? Paul Pogba does not win you games on his own. Hazard does. Alexis Sanchez doesn’t, he’s shown that since January, they thought he could, but what we’ve seen.
‘They need two magical players. I think they’ve got really good players, they haven’t got a Hazard, (Cristiano) Ronaldo, (Lionel) Messi, and I know many teams haven’t, but the difference between the two today was the quality in Hazard, we saw that in big games.
'United don’t have that. From watching today I don’t think they are too far away, I really don’t.'
Having been widely expected to kick on in Mourinho's second season, United seem to have stalled and end 2017-18 without a major trophy.
Eden Hazard got the only goal of the game at Wembley as he coolly slotted home from the penalty spot early in the first half following a rash challenge from Phil Jones.
Sanchez, in the absence of Romelu Lukaku from the start, was tasked with providing the match-winning spark but looked exasperated and was vocal in his criticism of team-mates during the 90 minutes.
