Arsenal fans paid tribute to Arsene Wenger with a rapturous standing ovation on the 22nd minute against Huddersfield.

The Frenchman is departing after 22 years at the helm, a mark of incredible longevity that was recognised by both sets of supporters.

Many decided to bring banners, flags and messages of support for Wenger for his farewell.

It had the feeling of a momentous, historic afternoon with the game itself taking a back seat.

No doubt Wenger would prefer the focus to be on his team but all eyes were on the 68-year-old.

Some fans brought shirts with 'Wenger Thanks' emblazoned in the back whilst other came with special edition scarfs for the occasion.

And on 22 minutes there was a thunderous recognition of 22 years service and the club Wenger has become synonymous with since joining in 1996.

Many of the Terriers supporters also took a minute to show their respect and join the farewell.

A plane even flew over the ground with a banner trailing behind reading: 'Merci Arsene, we'll miss you too.'

The message was in reference to Wenger's speech to those at the Emirates in his final home game in charge last weekend, during which he told supporters he would miss them.
