Iniesta's wife: Andres couldn't have imagined a better ending

Ana Ortíz is the person who knows Andres Iniesta best. She has been his wife for 15 years.

The player's life partner spoke to Radio Barcelona after the midfielder gave an emotional press conference to announce his departure from Barça, who he joined 21 years ago.

Ana congratulated her husband for being able to leave Barça in his prime.

"He couldn't have imagined a better ending. He always said he wanted to go like this and it has been a dream," she said.

"He is a person who is a star and things have gone well for him because that's what he deserves."

Iniesta's wife also said her husband has been unable to sleep well for many nights as he weighed up the decision.

"It was very tough, because being like he is, it wasn't easy to take this decision, but he is conscious that the moment has arrived. He always said that if he was to stay on he had to feel 100 percent."

Ana also praised Iniesta as a person. "The most beautiful thing about leaving is he realised how much everyone  loved him, and you can see why.. I remember when one day someone said to him 'In a country where there are no morals or ethics, you are an example'. That's a beautiful phrase because he is a person who deserves everything that has happened to him."
