Lewandowski: "Real Madrid? It's better if I don't say anything"

Asked if the Champions League semi-finals are a chance to remind Real what they could be signing, the Bayern Munich ace gave an elusive response.

One of the players who will be the focus of the attention in tonight's Champions League semi-final first leg between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid is Robert Lewandowski. The striker, 29, is eager to make a summer move to Los Blancos, whose coach, Zinedine Zidane, has already given his thumbs-up to the Poland international's signing. Ahead of the tie, Sport Bild - who last week revealed that the Bayern dressing room are aware of Lewandowski's desire to join Real - asked the player whether the double header with the LaLiga club would be the ideal opportunity to remind the Spaniards and their president, Florentino Pérez, what they would be getting were they to snap him up. "It's better if I don't say anything about that..." repied 'Lewa' with a smile on his face.

When it comes to Real Madrid, however, Lewandowski has very little left to prove. They already know what he's all about. In 2013, while still at Borussia Dortmund, the centre-forward hit four goals past José Mourinho's side in the first leg of the Champions League, in a 4-1 thumping that saw the Germans progress despite a 2-0 defeat in the return at the Bernabéu. Pérez was dazzled by the performance, leading the Real chief to ask Lewandowski after the second leg whether he was interested in playing for Los Merengues. But the striker had already reached an agreement with Bayern...

Now, though, Lewandowski feels that the right time has come to leave Bayern and fulfil his dream of pulling on the white shirt of Real Madrid. His comments may be non-committal when he is asked about a potential transfer in the media, but the same cannot be said of his actions. The Pole has changed representative, placing his affairs in the hands of super-agent Pini Zahavi, who helped take Neymar from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain. The 74-year-old Israeli has been tasked with making a move to the Spanish capital a reality.

Bayern don't want to sell Lewandowski

"A transfer involving Robert is a difficult, delicate operation," Zahavi recently told an interview with the newspaper Przeglad Sportowy. "No one can say whether Lewandowski will be here or there. Nothing has been decided yet." With Bayern reluctant to sell, persuading the German champions to part with the player is the major stumbling block towards a summer switch. Bayern's CEO, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, and the club's chairman, Uli Hoeness, both insist that the forward will see out his contract, which does not expire until 2021. Once Real Madrid's Champions League campaign has concluded, the Spanish giants will throw themselves fully into planning for next season, and completing their summer transfer business. And Lewandowski's name has been underlined in red.
