From Juventus to Atalanta, without forgetting about Montella’s Milan: Marcello Lippi gives his thoughts on several hot Serie A topics at the moment. On Radio Anch’io, he starts with Juventus:

“I don’t know why, but Juve struggle to perform the same way in Europe as they do in Italy. Two seasons ago they could count on Vidal, Pirlo and Pogba, now they’re gone so it’s understandable to have some struggles. Pjanic and Higuain? Just because they’re class players doesn’t mean their output will match their value from the start. In terms of the Champions League, it’s important for Juve that it doesn’t become an obsession”.

A thought had to go out to Atalanta, a team doing extremely well so far this season: “I don’t know if they can become the new Leicester, but anything is possible, just look at Leipzig in Germany. I’m very happy with the way Atalanta started the season”.

For the Italian coach however, the Serie A title remains a battle of three coaches: “Scudetto? Sarri, Allegri and Spalletti are the ones contending the title. They all need some more time to find the right balance in their respective teams. Milan has shown their desire to make an Italian team: I like that. Montella’s capabilities as a coach are bringing in success right now”.
