West Ham Supporters: If Chicharito plays more regularly, he can still be a hero

After their win against Southampton, West Ham are five points above relegation before visiting Chelsea on Sunday, however, one of the club's independent supporters associations aren't happy that Chicharito hasn't been given a fair crack, suggesting that the Mexican can still be a hero for the east Londoners if only the club would give him more match time.

Had the 'Little Pea' not been so regularly on the sidelines, it's arguable that the Hammers would ever have been in a predicament at the wrong end of the Premier League table in the first place.

MARCA contacted Mark Walker, president of WHUISA (West Ham United Independent Supporters Association), a well-known group, to understand his assessment of their campaign and his thoughts on Chicharito's performance.

"The season is never going to be easy when your first four matches are not in your own stadium," he said.

"Injuries haven't helped either, we have always seemed nervous, even when we were ahead on the scoreboard.

"Our best performance in the Premier League was against Huddersfield (4-1), although the win against Chelsea and knocking Tottenham out of the League Cup are the highlights.

"I think that in summer we will have a lot of work to do."

As for who is to blame, he has no doubt.

"It's hard to see beyond the owners," he continued.

"They didn't invest in the squad.

"I've always been an admirer of Slaven Bilic too, but our form has changed dramatically with David Moyes and it will be interesting to see what happens with him at the end of the season.

"Without further quality in the squad it will be difficult next season."

With regards to Chicharito, Walker had an interesting take on how the West Ham supporters have seen the Mexican.

"He has suffered from injuries, but he's been brilliant," he noted.

"There were a lot of expectations placed on him so he will always have to pass an exam in every game.

"We have Manuel Lanzini so we would have to adapt a system where both of them feel important.

"One complaint with him is that he lowers his level easily and English football is very physical, however, West Ham supporters are loyal and we want him to do well.

"If he can get more regular game time, he can still become a hero at West Ham."
