#1  Alessandro Del Piero | Real Madrid vs Juventus, 2008   Del Piero returned to Juve at the height of the Calciopoli scandal, but showed off his masterful skills with a double as the Merengue were dismantled in front of their own fans. The Bernabeu could not help but show its appreciation, as it gave the Italian maestro a reception mirrored 10 years later for Ronaldo in Turin.

#2  Ronaldo | Manchester United vs Real Madrid, 2003   One of the greatest games 'original' Ronaldo played in the Madrid shirt. The Brazilian smashed a hat-trick at Old Trafford in a 3-1 win for the visitors and soaked up the affection of an admiring Theatre of Dreams.

#3  Dennis Bergkamp | Manchester City vs Arsenal, 2003   The man affectionately christened the 'Non-flying Dutchman' in memory of his aversion to airplanes was simply unstoppable at his best. Bergkamp ran riot at Maine Road, scoring once and generally leading City a merry dance as Arsenal ran out 5-1 winners.

#4  Ronaldinho | Real Madrid vs Barcelona, 2005   It takes something truly special for a Barcelona player to earn a standing ovation at the Bernabeu. But Ronaldinho was one of a kind, his talent on the field matched with an infectious joy that made the Brazilian one of the most lovable stars in the game. In 2005 Ronaldinho took Madrid to pieces in a 3-0 win, scoring twice and basking in the applause of Barca's bitter rivals.

#5  Steven Gerrard | Chelsea vs Liverpool, 2015   An Anfield legend, Gerrard was coming towards the end of his sparkling Liverpool career when the Reds lined up at Stamford Bridge in May 2015. The captain hit his side's equaliser in a 1-1 draw and was clapped off the pitch when Brendan Rodgers withdrew him with 11 minutes remaining.

#6  Thierry Henry | Sunderland vs Arsenal, 2003   Fredrik Ljungberg may have scored a hat-trick against the already-relegated Black Cats, but the Stadium of Light only had eyes for his team-mate. Henry turned in a virtuoso performance and was rewarded with a hearty ovation from the home fans, who had little else to celebrate in a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of the Gunners.

#7  Lionel Messi | Atletico Madrid vs Barcelona, 2009   In Pep Guardiola's first year at Camp Nou Messi's legend was already growing. The Argentine enraptured the Vicente Calderon crowd with a Copa del Rey hat-trick, making the world stand up and take notice of his talent.

#8  Andres Iniesta | Real Madrid vs Barcelona, 2010   After Ronaldinho, the Catalans' midfield icon was the next man to earn the Bernabeu's grudging respect. Iniesta was at the heart of a 5-1 victory for Barca that left deep scars in the Merengue psyche, and was deservedly feted as a genius on the pitch.

#9  Xavi | Athletic vs Barcelona, 2015   Xavi's departure from Barcelona marked the end of an era at Camp Nou, as the Blaugrana bid farewell to the midfielder who had been at the heart of their success for a decade. Even San Mames got in on the act, as the veteran was cheered to the rafters after a vintage performance that helped his side prevail 5-2.

#10  Francesco Totti | Real Madrid vs Roma, 2016   Roma's playmaking legend added his name to the illustrious list of legends that won the admiration of the Bernabeu in 2016, in an otherwise routine win for the hosts. Totti came off the bench with his side trailing and received a rapturous reception as he entered the action.

#11  Diego Maradona | Real Madrid vs Barcelona, 1983   The Argentine's spell at the Camp Nou was fraught with conflict, but he did leave some wonderful memories from his short time in Spain. A beautifully impudent goal to put Barca two goals ahead left the Bernabeu eating out of the palm of his hand, and the Madrid faithful could not help but applaud his unique skills.

#12  Cristiano Ronaldo | Juventus vs Real Madrid, 2018   Juventus had no answer to the greatest goalscorer in Champions League history on Tuesday. Ronaldo scored twice in a 3-0 victory for the visitors but it was his second, an inspired overhead kick, that led Juventus Stadium to salute his talents with a standing ovation.
