Wolves 2-2 Hull: Super sub Oskar Buur Rasmussen nets late to salvage point

There were murmurs of confusion around Molineux when Oskar Buur Rasmussen was sent on for his Championship debut as a late replacement for Diogo Jota.

Clearly, not many knew of the 20-year-old Dane who was only in the squad because of suspensions to Ruben Neves and Matt Doherty.

But seven minutes from the end Rasmussen announced himself with a pinpoint header to salvage a point for Wolves just as Hull anticipated an unlikely victory.

Nuno Espirito Santo's side were far from their fluid best, consistently giving away possession, and the influence of Neves on this team grows in his absence.

Wolves will need to be much better for Friday's trip to Cardiff as the Championship's top two meet in a match that could go a long way to deciding the title.

For his reward, Rasmussen will be back training with the youth team today. 'Oskar is a boy working well in the Under-23s who has been doing well,' said Nuno. 'Today was the moment, he helped the team, so good for him and good for us.'

Nigel Adkins could rightly acclaim his team for a disciplined display that almost brought three points. 'We came up with a game-plan, changed some personnel to suit that, and against the champions-elect and we were good value for a point,' he said. 'All the players were outstanding.'

Jota returned after a two-match absence to operate as a false nine as Benik Afobe dropped to the bench despite scoring four goals in five games. Within 20 minutes the switch worked.

A silky smooth move involving Helder Costa and Ivan Cavaleiro saw Jota burst into the box down the left and cut back too adroitly for Michael Hector, who left out a leg that the Wolves forward promptly fell over.

The Hull bench erupted in fury when referee Darren England pointed to the spot but it was foolish by Hector and Jota rose to convert the penalty for his 15th goal of a marvellous season. Allan McGregor, who had already saved superbly from Romain Saiss, then blocked a Costa shot with his legs.

As half-time approached a suicidal pass by Costa allowed David Meyler in and Roderick Miranda felt he had no choice but to hook an arm and bring him down. Meyler duly levelled from the spot. As far as auditions go for a regular place in the Wolves team, it was fluffed lines from Miranda, starting his first Championship game since October 28

Nuno responded at the interval by sending on Afobe for Miranda and repositioning Cavaleiro at wing-back but the errors kept coming. John Ruddy saved with his legs when one Wolves mistake let in Ola Aina for a shot and Hector headed a superb chance from Kamil Grosicki's free-kick against the post.

But eight minutes later Ryan Bennett did the job for the visitors. Grosicki drilled a low cross and Bennett, trying to clear, sent the ball into his own net. Wolves responded when Barry Douglas found space on the left and Rasmussen connected sweetly.
