Jones, Donovan and the 20 most-capped USMNT soccer players of all time

Cobi Jones and Landon Donovan lead the way in terms of national team appearances, but who else makes the cut?

#20  John Harkes | 1987-2000 | 90 caps   Before his retirement in 2000, Harkes racked up 90 appearances for the U.S. national team and was a part of the 1988 Olympics, the 1990 World Cup and the 1994 World Cup.

#19  Brian McBride | 1993-2006 | 95 caps   The former Columbus Crew and Fulham forward called a day on his career in 2006 following his third World Cup for the U.S. national team. McBride scored 30 goals for his country during his international service and was later inducted into the Soccer Hall of Fame in 2014.

#18  Alexi Lalas | 1990-1998 | 96 caps   Famed for his long hair and his extravagant facial hair, Lalas not only made 96 senior appearances for the U.S. national team but he also made a name in MLS with the New England Revolution and as general manager for the San Jose Earthquakes, New York Red Bulls and Los Angeles Galaxy.

#17  Joe-Max Moore | 1992-2002 | 100 caps   Joe-Max Moore spent a decade with the U.S. national team and sits sixth on the all-time scoring list with 24 goals. His club career included stints in Germany and with Everton in the Premier League, though he found the most success in MLS with the New England Revolution. 

#16  Tony Meola | 1988-2006 | 100 caps   The starting goalkeeper for the U.S. national team at the 1990 and 1994 World Cups, Meola didn't reach the 100 cap mark until 2006. He was part of the 2002 World Cup roster, though he missed out on the 1998 team. 

#15  Earnie Stewart | 1990-2004 | 101 caps   Though he retired from international football in 2004, Earnie Stewart is still heavily involved with U.S. soccer as sporting director of the Philadelphia Union. Stewart's 111 goals as a professional in the Netherlands, where he played VVV, Willem, and NAC, makes him the highest-scoring American in international club play.

#14  Kasey Keller | 1990-2007 | 102 caps   At the time of his international retirement in 2007, Keller held a team-record 47 clean sheets for the U.S. while also holding the record for wins by a goalkeeper with 53. He is famously remembered by USA fans for a 10-save performance against Brazil in a 1-0 win and was one of the true pioneers of Americans in Europe, having spent 17 years with European clubs from England to Spain to Germany. 

#13  Eric Wynalda | 1990-2000 | 106 caps   Player-turned-pundit Eric Wynalda accumulated 106 appearances for the U.S. national side from 1990-2000, being named as the U.S. Player of the Decade for the 1990s. In 2006 he was named to the Ventura County Sports Hall of Fame.

#12  Paul Caligiuri | 1984-1998 | 110 caps   As well as being inducted into the U.S. National Soccer Hall of Fame in 2014, Paul Caligiuri also serves as an athlete representative on the board of directors of the U.S. Soccer Federation. From 1984 to 1998, the midfielder earned 110 caps for his country.

#11  Carlos Bocanegra |  2001-2012 | 110 caps   With 14 goals in his 110 caps, Bocanegra is the highest-scoring defender in U.S. history and played at the 2006 and 2010 World Cups. He is now in the front office with Atlanta United in MLS. 

#10  Jozy Altidore | 2007- | 110 caps   Jozy Altidore, 28, has plenty of time to move up the appearance rankings. From representing his country at the youth level to earning 110 senior caps, the Toronto FC forward has been named the U.S. Soccer Male Athlete of the Year twice. Will Altidore finish his career as his nation's top scorer?

#9  Claudio Reyna | 1994-2006 | 112 caps   Reyna began his U.S. national team career in 1994 and would eventually play in the 1998, 2002 and 2006 World Cups. Following 12 years of international service, Reyna called it a day following his side being knocked out at the 2006 tournament in Germany.

#8  Tim Howard | 2002- | 121 caps   Tim Howard may have found Premier League fame with Manchester United and Everton but it was with the U.S. national team that he has enjoyed the most success. He is the most-capped goalkeeper in his country's history, started every game at the 2010 and 2014 World Cups, and has two Gold Cup titles to his name.

#7  DaMarcus Beasley | 2001- | 126 caps   DaMarcus Beasley made his U.S. senior debut in 2001 and is one of a handful of players to have reached the 100-cap mark. The winger played a big part in the 2002, 2005 and 2007 Gold Cup victories and captained his country to another cup win in 2013. Now 35, a second retirement may be in the cards for Beasley.

#6  Marcelo Balboa | 1988-2000 | 127 caps   Nicknamed "Iron Man," Balboa was a fixture throughout the 1990s on the back line for the USMNT. The long-haired defender is probably best remembered for his bicycle kick that narrowly missed against Colombia in the 1994 World Cup. 

#5  Jeff Agoos | 1988-2003 | 134 caps   At the time of his retirement from the game in 2005, Agoos was the second most capped player in USMNT history, having played in the 1998 and 2002 World Cup. He also has served as the MLS vice president of competition. 

#4  Michael Bradley | 2006- | 140 caps   The 30-year-old is one of the few on the list with the opportunity to move up in the rankings, though to add another 25 games to his list — and surpass Cobi Jones — before he eventually leaves international football will be difficult. 

#3  Clint Dempsey |  2004- | 141 caps   The joint all-time top scorer for the U.S., Dempsey has undisputed status as one of the best players to have played for the side. The former Fulham and Tottenham star scored five goals in 11 games for his country in 2017 but was unable to deter their failure to qualify for the 2018 World Cup. At 35, it was almost certainly his final chance to play at the competition.

#2  Landon Donovan | 2000-2014 | 157 caps   Widely regarded as the finest player to represent his country, Donovan helped the U.S. to four Gold Cups and a Confederations Cup final, as well as picking up a host of individual accolades over his 157 appearances. Donovan was named the U.S. Male Soccer Athlete of the Year in 2003, 2004, 2009 and 2010, won the MLS Golden Boot in 2009, and has been named in the MLS All-Time Best XI.

#1  Cobi Jones | 1992-2004 | 164 caps   Part of the CONCACAF Gold Cup-winning squad in 2002, Jones represented the U.S. national team at the World Cup on three seperate occasions - 1994, 1998 and 2002. The former LA Galaxy midfielder, assistant coach and interim boss is by far and away the most capped U.S. player, racking up 164 appearances for the senior side.
